Roses are Red...
Violets are blue, I hate Valentines Day... How about you? Okay maybe I don't hate Valentines Day, hate is a strong word. I suppose I am just not the biggest fan of it, being as I am single - very, very single. If I was dating the love of my life, engaged, or married then sure, I'd love this holiday. But at this moment in my life, Valentines Day makes me want to punch all happy couples smack in the face.
As Valentines Day rapidly approaches, I have begun to think about the pro's and con's of this Hallmark invented holiday. Pro number 1: every year, the day directly after V-Day, all of the good chocolate at pretty much every grocery store, goes majorly on sale. So essentially, February 15th is National Singles Awareness day, because where will all the singles be? Anywhere chocolate is sold. I probably should be embarrassed by the fact that it is only us single folks stalking the chocolate aisles for discounts, but I have no shame. Honestly, this is quite possibly one of my favorite sales of the year, other than probably the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I suppose a con in this situation would be the weight I will inevitably gain from the 5 pounds of Lindt Lindor goodies I am bound to inhale.
For all of you people out there that are actually in relationships, Valentines Day is about love, getting flowers and chocolates, romance, and sexy lingerie. But for me, other than the cheap chocolate, my favorite part of celebrating this holiday (and another pro) when dating someone, is getting all dressed up for the date. Duh! On this holiday, women everywhere all of a sudden think its acceptable to wear head to toe red, pink, or worse... both, at the same time. This is a big no, no in my book. I prefer to take a more refined approach. For us classy females, Valentines Day attire includes femininity, pieces that are a bit more romantic, with a touch of sexy. What I'm trying to say is that on this over the top day, meant for celebrating love, it is important to not go crazy with the "holiday spirit."
A little splash of pink and red in your outfit is fine, but I like to stick to a more classic look. Something like a great little black dress with a statement pump is always a great option. Or anything with a bit romance, like a flowy or silky dress. And if you're feeling a bit more trendy, throw on a fabulous jumpsuit. Remember: you don't have to be dipped in red and pink to look appropriately dressed for Valentines Day. For this holiday, I love lace and silk. These fabrics are sexy without screaming "I'M EASY!" You can't go wrong with any of these options. No matter what you choose to wear for your hot date, it is important to focus on the fact that V-Day is about the love you and your significant other share, not necessarily about your outfit choice... even though the perfect outfit can totally set the mood for the evening and how sexy you feel. So, my final con for this (personally) under celebrated holiday, is that I don't have anyone to share in the cheesiness with. But other than those 2 cons, I suppose this holiday is kind of nice... even more so for the happily betrothed couples.
To help all of you ladies out there, I have chosen some of my favorite, Valentines Day appropriate, outfits. What I love about all of these pieces, is that you can wear them for your hot night on the town, or for us single ladies, we can wear them to work, a girls night out, or really any other time you see fit. And on top of that, they are amazing investments for filling out your closet.
