It's All About the Lips!
Liquid lipstick seems to be taking over the beauty world these days. I used to think it was so overrated, but as of like 3 months ago, I officially became a matte, liquid lipstick convert. What started this trend? One person, two words - Kylie Jenner. Her lip kits have given a whole new meaning to lipstick and have forced other brands to evolve their lipstick in order to keep up with the trend and Kylie's "empire." But is her lipstick a good quality? NO. You are essentially paying for the brand and her name, not a great product. One liquid lipstick is a whopping $17, and God forbid you want the kit, then you get to shell out $29 for the liquid lipstick and matching lip liner. For $30 I would much rather invest in a timeless, gorgeous, always amazing, Chanel lipstick.
One of the my most important requirements when using lipstick, is that it must have staying power. If it disappears in 2 hours or the second I take a drink of water, then that lipstick is officially on my hit list. It also MUST go on smoothly. There is nothing worse than a clumpy, sticky lipstick or lipgloss. But most importantly, the product must be a reasonable price, and on top of that all brands should always have great customer service. The major complaints I have heard about Kylie's makeup includes, the product sells out way to fast (which we all know to be true if you watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians), that the lipstick doesn't last long at all, and that it takes forever and a day for the product to get to your house. None of this is good for developing a reliable, strong brand image. Essentially, Kylie's lipstick, much like her family, is seen as poor quality, overpriced, and over hyped.
For years my favorite lipstick brands have been Chanel, Laura Mercier, and more recently, Bobbi Brown. But last year I found a new favorite... a brand called ColourPop! If you've never heard of ColourPop, you seriously haven't lived. Not only does this brand carry great liquid lipstick, but their eye shadow is the absolute best I have ever used. Screw the Naked Pallettes, ColourPop's eyeshadow is so highly pigmented, doesn't crease, and lasts for hours! But lets not get off track. While Kylie's lipstick is definitely better known, mainly because of her celebrity, ColourPop's is reasonably priced, lasts longer, and is overall a much nicer product. Essentially ColourPop is the better version of Kylie's lip kits. ColourPop does in a sense mimic Kylie's colors, but has amped up the quality. How do you know this stuff is as good as I say? Professional makeup artists and bloggers rave about ColourPop and swear by it. If it's good enough to plaster all over a celebrities face (other than a Kardashian), then it's good enough for me!
Yes, the quality of this product is amazing but what makes it even better? All of their lipsticks sell for $5-6! So, while basic bitches are ordering Kylie's lip kits, and are dropping $30 on crap, you can head to colourpop.com and get 2 Ultra Matte Lipsticks, a lip primer, and 2 eyeshadows for the same price. And to sweeten the deal, on your first purchase ColourPop will give you $5 off if you subscribe to their emails. Such a bargain, right? Trust me, this stuff will rock your world. It is so hard for me to not order something every time they come out with new colors. If you're in need of the perfect nude, matte lipstick and you've considered purchasing Kylie's Dolce K Liquid Lipstick, I highly suggest investing in ColourPop's Times Square Ultra Matte Lip instead! I own it and it is probably my all time favorite lipstick, it goes with literally everything, looks good on everyone, and doesn't fade away no matter how many margaritas you've had at happy hour. And what's a good happy hour without 2 or 3 rita's?
